Man, Shomari Wills sparked my imagination. He paints the picture of times of events that I only heard about and could only imagine thru his fact finding and discovered research. This book was a timely one for me. A merger of history and inspiration. It explained a few things and made me realize how much I did not know about prominent people and life of African people in America the early 1900s. Black Fortunes touches on the lives of Mary Ellen Pleasant, Bob Church, Madam C.J. Walker, Hannah Elias and topics of abolitionism, capitalism, civil rights, Jim Crow, Black hair industry and of course Black fortunes and generational wealth. An excellent read.
